Emma is short and curvy. She is very full-figured for her age. She has green eyes that are almost blue, they're so light. Her hair is brown with a natural auburn/red tint. It's wavy and quite thick. Her hair is very wayward and has a mind of its own. She's pale.

Character Story

Personality: Emma is a very academic girl; very intelligent. She loves books and learning. She's quiet and shy but hides behind her confident, haughty facade. She's very caring and will talk to anyone who appears to be upset or in difficulty. She's quite a sad person. She's very self-conscious and not very social. Emma has every right to dislike muggles and value the wizarding secrecy because of her father (see history section), but she doesn't. She's terrified of magic being discovered by muggles, but she doesn't hate muggles. Emma fears discovery because of the misconceptions muggles harbour about magic, which are the same reasons wizards went into hiding in the first place. She feels like she should hate muggles as there are an awful lot of abandoned halfblood children at Hogwarts, left by the muggle parent; these include Emma and her two sisters. Emma feels guilty for not hating muggles, but if she tries to, she feels guilty for hating. She's very mixed up and confused. She's afraid of trusting people and of being abandoned again.

Strengths: Determined and Hardworking.

Weaknesses: Can't take criticism and short tempered.

Pet: A barn owl called Avis.

Personal History:

Emma has two sisters - one older by two years and one younger by two years. She was brought up by her mother (a witch), as her father (a muggle) abandoned the family on learning of the magical connections. Emma is insecure and often sad and hurting because of her father's abandonment. She was two years old so barely remembers him, but she knows the full story of how her father openly wanted to leave her mother after discovering her magical abilities, except for the fact that he thought she could "magic" him rich. Eventually she proved she couldn't but queried about their two daughters (and the unborn one). The father asked if any of them would inherit their mother's abilities and she told him it was very likely that all three would. At this point he left the family.

Emma's magical abilities appeared in a series of wild leaps away from the school bullies during her last two years at primary school.

Emma is very into books and Herbology. She also loves History.

Emma had made for the Greenhouses when she fled from the Owlery. She didn't really know why, but she'd always been drawn to plants, although she had to admit that most of her favourites were muggle plants.

Emma had heard about the Student Garden, and she was keen to see it for herself; and that's where the First Year ended up, with her owl, Avis, still perched on her shoulder. Emma wasn't entirely sure that Avis was allowed here, but he was a very well-behaved owl and she hadn't read anywhere that owls weren't allowed.

Avis took off from Emma's shoulder. She followed his path on the ground beneath him. She ended up at a spot where students could plant their own things. She sat on the grass, making sure not to sit on or too near any of the delicate flowers and plants. Avis landed beside her with a soft hoot. She stroked his head. The big barn owl knew Emma so well. He was looking at the soil and then back at Emma, as if wondering what she would choose to grow there. Emma had to find the Herbology Professor first (she wanted to check what was allowed and what wasn't. Like, Avis' presence for starters. And whether it was ok to be down here just to sit and be alone for a bit - there wasn't really "alone" space in the castle and Emma needed lots of Emma time - and of course, what she could plant! Perhaps muggle plants weren't allowed), but Emma, although she retained her confident, fearless front at all times, was actually a very nervous girl. She wasn't good with people, except her sisters and her mother. She had more of a connection to Avis - it had to be said. Her sisters always laughed at her, but their mother understood her.

It was so beautiful and peaceful in the garden. Emma could just sit there for hours. She'd already found the way to her Charms classroom, so she decided to stay in the garden until she had to leave for Charms. She stretched out her legs, turned her face towards the November sun, and let the breeze blow her hair about, gently. Avis landed on her knee. He didn't want to be left out!
