Lily was born in a Muggle household, and has one older sister named Petunia. At a very young age Lily knew that she was different from not only her sister, but most of the other children she met. She could do things like slow her descent through the air after jumping off a swing, and control the petals of a flower. It wasn't until she met Severus Snape, a boy from Spinner's End, that she learned that she was a witch. During the years following, the two became good friends as Severus taught Lily about the wizarding world. Lily's magic caused problems in her relationship with her sister. Petunia was jealous of Lily's being a witch, and it was the cause of a rift that grew between them. Lily's parents, however, were quite proud of her.
When Lily came to Hogwarts, she was sad that her best friend Severus and herself were sorted into seperate houses, but they were sure to try and see each other as much as possible. She adored learning magic and did what she could to do well in all her studies. She excelled in Potions and Charms, which she found to be the most fascinating subjects. Lily's accomplishments as a student led her to being invited to the Slug Club and becoming Head Girl.
Lily had a love/hate relationship with a group of students who called themselves "The Marauders" in school. Particularly James Potter and Sirius Black. She found both to be arrogant and unnecessarily mean which was the cause of many confrontations. It wasn't until the later years in school when both boys had matured considerably that she soon found them her closest friends. It was also around this time that Lily had to break off her friendship with Severus having not liked his interest in the Dark Arts.
After graduating, Lily and James had a quiet wedding with close friends and family. The first wizarding war was still being fought and they both joined the ranks of the Order of the Phoenix. After the birth of their son Harry, the Potters had the Fidelius Charm placed on their home in Godric's Hollow with their secret keeper being Peter Pettigrew. Peter betrayed them and told Voldemort of their whereabouts.
When Voldemort came to their home to kill Harry and thus prevent a prophecy from fulfilling, Lily stood up to him attempting to safe her son's life. When she refused to step aside the Dark Lord killed her using the Killing Curse which then bound Harry with a protection bound with love. This caused the curse to rebound off of Harry and hit Voldemort, destroying his body and effectively ending the First Wizarding War.
