Concept

Paula is the youngest child born to pureblood Iona Paneth Kendrick and muggle-born Nicholas Kendrick. The girl was never overly close with either of her parents what with her eldest brother trying to be just like their dad and her sister trying to be just like her mom. It tended to leave her and her other brother to just hang out together, which lead to the two having a close relationship. She can't stand to see people in pain and aspires to be a healer one day so that she can help people.

Paula enjoys reading. She reads anything she can get her hands on from fiction to non-fiction, muggle to wizarding books. She has a large collection of books at her house that she loves to read over and over again. She also enjoys playing board games from wizards chess and gobstones to Guess Who? and Checkers. The girl also collects chocolate frog cards. She enjoys trying to get her older brother to give her his cards when he's eating chocolate frogs, though she has yet to actually get him to give them to her. Other than reading and games Paula enjoys spending time looking up at the stars at night and playing with the "safe" animals that roam Hogwarts.

A Look Outside

Paula is a small, slender girl with long, dark blonde hair that falls to about her shoulders. Her face is oval shaped with full lips and almond-shaped, brown eyes. Her eyes brows arch just slightly over her eyes and she is almost always carrying a smile, showing off slightly crooked white teeth.

She has light, jagged scars on the palms of her hands and her knees from a fall she took when she was younger that were healed by her inexperienced magic. Her clothing choice is casual, but girly. She likes to look pretty and wear light colors, but she likes being in things she can move freely in without fear of showing off things she isn't supposed to. This means that she tends to dress in jeans and nice tops with some kind of hat.

Paula is not one for jewelry, yet she can never be found without a small bracelet (thin, silver chain with a 'P' hanging from it) given to her by her grandmother.

Friends


Paula is a caring, loyal person. She does not trust very easily so those that do give her a reason to trust them gets her loyalty forever, no matter what they do to her. She is also a good bit more open with her friends than she is with other people. She feels like she doesn't have to hide when she is upset when around friends, which is probably a good thing because Paula has been spending a lot of time since her dad's death with her friends and if she had to hide when she was upset than there would probably be some problems.

Strangers


Paula has never really had problems talking to strangers; trusting them on the other hand is a problem. She can strike up a conversation about anything with nearly anyone, but that doesn't stop her from being a bit nervous around people that are older than herself. She is a very caring person so if she sees someone in trouble no matter if she knows them or not she will do her best to help them out.

Paula's strongest trait would have to be her caring attitude. She will do everything in her abilities to help someone out if they need it no matter who the person is or what they've done in the past.

Paula's temper would have to be her weakest trait. She inherited her mother's short temper so when something sets her off everyone around knows it.

Goals


Paula's long-term goal is to graduate with high enough grades to go into the medical field once she graduates. She wants to be able to help people and the best way to do that is to go into a profession that allows her to help people. She has a shorter term goal to make more friends since she doesn't seem to have very many lately.

General


Before Hogwarts Paula was one of those children who got into anything and everything for the sake of it was there and it looked interesting. When she got to school that need to get into anything and everything died down a bit and she no longer got into everything. She did tend to go exploring around the castle when one of her friends wanted to or when she had nothing to do, but often times she would stay in the library or common room reading. She loves learning new things and was taught to always ask a question if she didn't understand or wanted to learn more. When she studied something she did it to learn the material and not just memorize it long enough to take a test on it because she would probably need it later in life. She isn't very afraid to go exploring in places that others don't want to go (such as the Forbidden Forest), but she does have a fear of getting lost in those places. Her curious nature can often times lead her to act rather recklessly. When she gets the idea to go exploring there is hardly anything that can talk her out of the idea.

Paula loves meeting new people and making new friends so Hogwarts was a rather good place for her. There were so many other kids her age and there were so many kids close to her age that she didn't know where to start when it came to learning. She a sweet, caring kid who tries to put other people before herself.

Even though she is a very sweet girl who hates violence she has her mother's temper. It does not take a lot to set her off and when she does get mad it's never pretty. It's not so much that she starts flinging spells (now that she's in school) or that she resorts to any kind of violence, it's that she starts screaming and yelling and on the occasion she gets mad enough she'll start crying. It tends to catch people's attention when a young girl is standing in front of someone, screaming and just raising a fuss about something.

Family

Iona Paneth came from a pureblood family who tended to marry their children off to people in hopes of gaining alliances from other pureblood families. Her older brother, Fergus, was placed in an arranged marriage with some witch from America. It was obvious that he was rather miserable in it, but it didn't matter to her parents so long as they had another connection. Iona knew that she didn't want to get married to someone she'd never met or someone she didn't love. She wanted to marry for love and have children because of love not some misguided need for an heir. For the first five years of her schooling it seemed that she might be able to do that, but the summer between her fifth and sixth year of school her parents started talking marriage contracts.

Apparently there was a number of families wanting to tie their families together by marrying the youngest daughter. Iona wasn't going to stand for that. She was going to marry for love. Luckily her parents couldn't make up their minds very quickly. During her sixth year she met a muggle born Ravenclaw, Nicholas Kendrick, who was a year older than herself. The two of them hit it off instantly and spent the rest of the year getting to know each other and began dating right at the end of the year. Before the two parted ways at the station Nicholas confessed to having fallen in love with Iona and that even though she still had another year he wanted to marry her. Of course it was just a young couple in love's dream to marry immediately.

Iona had told him that she felt the same way and they spent a majority of the summer together. In August, only days before she was to go off for her seventh year, Nicholas gave her a ring. A promise that as soon as she arrived home they would be married. She showed the ring off to her friends at school and planned a wedding that she knew she'd never get. Somehow word got back to her parents that she was engaged to a muggle born and over Christmas break told her that she would be marrying a man from Spain. Heart broken she locked herself in the room for the rest of break and as soon as she got back to school wrote to Nicholas to tell him the horrible news, who since graduating had taken an intern job at the British Ministry of Magic. He suggested that they run off as soon as she was done with school and marry. Then her parents wouldn't have a say in it.

It was a good idea and she quickly agreed to it. The train ride back to King's Cross station was nerve wracking for the seventeen year old who was sure her parents would be there to whisk her off back to Ireland before she had a chance to disappear. To her surprise that was not the case and she was quickly able to get her things and get out of there to meet up with Nicholas at his apartment. Within the week they were married and less than a month after their marriage Iona was pregnant with the couple's first child. Then on March 9, 1980 their first child, Benjamin Cohen Kendrick, came into the world.

A couple weeks after Benjamin's birth Iona got a job in Diagon Alley working at one of the many stores lining the street. Benjamin would be left with a babysitter while Nicholas and Iona worked and as soon as she got off (around noon) she would pick him up. Nothing really changed about the system for the next few years when their second child, Landon Hunter Kendrick, was born. Nor when their third child, Ruth Virginia Kendrick, was born.

Childhood

December 15, 1983 dawned bright and cold. Iona and Nicholas had taken the day off from work so that they could take their three children out for some last minute Christmas shopping since four year old Benjamin and three year old Landon were making a big deal out of not getting to buy Christmas presents for people. By this point Iona was nine months pregnant with their fourth (and final as far as she was concerned) child. The Iona had just flooed to the Leaky Cauldron and was waiting as her two sons came through and then her husband with their two year old daughter. It was just as Nicholas stepped out of the floo with Ruth in his arms that her water broke.

She was quickly ushered right back into the floo and to St. Mungo's where five hours later at 2:09 PM they welcomed another beautiful little girl, Paula Nicole Kendrick, into the world. Ben and Landon were both upset that their trip had been postponed, but after seeing their little sister they decided it was alright.

Iona and Paula were both home two days later with a clean bill of health. The family of six took a trip to Diagon Alley not long after Paula was born for that Christmas shopping they had planned before the birth. After that life fell back into the same routine it had been in since Benjamin was born. Iona and Nicholas would get up in the mornings and take the children to the babysitter's and then go to work. Around noon Iona would get off and pick up the children before going home and home schooling them on things that muggles tended to learn in school for a couple of hours and then letting them play until dinner and eventually sending them up to bed. As the kids got to the point of showing magical abilities Iona started taking them to work with her so that they didn't reveal magic to the babysitter or the muggles around them.

Paula was a happy child and she loved playing with her siblings. Benjamin and Landon looked out for her and Ruth and kept bullies away and there was always someone around to play with. When she was three her mother starting carrying them to Diagon Alley with her because Benjamin was at the age to go to school and he was starting to show magical abilities. They didn't want the muggles to find out. The blonde girl didn't mind because it just meant there were more children to play with and make friends with. The next year Landon and Ruth showed their own abilities and the following year, when she was six. Her own abilities made themselves known. She had been outside playing with the three older Kendrick children when she suddenly tripped over the uneven path.

Her hands and knees were scraped up and bloody, which scared the other children she had been playing with. They believed that she had seriously injured herself. Their fear made the small blonde girl worry and her magic acted upon that fear and healed her wounds, leaving scars in place, and everyone went on about their business. The next year her eldest brother, Benjamin, received an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. She was sad to see her brother go, but knew that it was necessary since he was of age to go off to school. She carried on with life just as she had for the past seven years of her life. She played with her two siblings that were still at home and during Christmas break she played with Benjamin.

She tried to act like he hadn't been gone for a whole three months, but her brother seemed to have changed a bit. Now that he was at school he was more studious (typical Ravenclaw) and he kept telling her that he didn't have time for such "childish actions" because he had "more important things to do" like homework. Paula didn't understand why her brother was suddenly not fun, but she knew better than to mess with him about it since all Kendrick children had their mother's temper and two screaming matches about how boring the boy had gotten was enough. Especially since both matches ended in Paula screaming that she "hated him" and "wished he'd die" before she left and him screaming that she "was an annoying little kid" who "needed to grow up" and "act her age" and other stupid things.

When it came time for him to go back the blonde girl was surprised that she was actually looking forward to him not being at home. She spent a lot of time with Landon and Ruth, growing closer to them. Summer was a bit strained with Benjamin back home because the two were still mad at each other for the incidents at Christmas and neither was willing to apologize to the other for the things said.

As August rolled around the expected owl came through the window, but instead of only one letter for Benjamin the owl had two. One for Benjamin and one for Landon. The blonde girl was upset that her favorite brother had received an acceptance letter. She didn't want him to go off and turn out like Benjamin. She cried and threw a fit. She begged Landon to stay home with her. Anything she thought might work she did. The blonde even went as far as to hide her brother's things throughout the house to try and keep him from going, but all her efforts got her was grounded for a week and a lecture about how she shouldn't be trying to talk him out of it.

September first was by far the saddest day in her life. She had to stay with her parents and watch her favorite brother get on the train and head off to school without her. That night she couldn't sleep and wound up sneaking into the room Landon shared with Benjamin and crying herself to sleep on the other blonde's bed. That went on for a couple more days before her mother finally sat her down and talked with her. She assured her that Landon would come home and he wouldn't change nearly as much as Benjamin had. When Christmas rolled around Paula was waiting at the station with her parents and sister and as soon as Landon got off the train the eight year old's arms were wrapped around his waist.

She spent the entire break talking and playing with Landon while Benjamin stayed up in the room studying like a nerd. When Landon went back to school after break Paula wasn't nearly as upset because she was sure Landon wouldn't change anymore than he already had and that summer she was proven correct. Her and Landon spent time together and talked and he told her cool stories about school. Again August rolled around and the owl appeared only this time baring three letters. One for each of her siblings. The girl spent as much time as she possible could with Landon and Ruth before they went off and she even spent a little time with Benjamin.

With her siblings gone off to school for the year Paula was left alone. Sure she had the kids from Diagon to hang out with and there were muggle kids in her neighborhood, but at night before she went to bed there was no one to hang out with. Her parents weren't fun to play with even though they did try. Christmas was a relief to her because it meant her siblings were home and she would have people at home to play with. She made the most of the short couple of weeks, though Ruth did spend more time away at friend's homes than she did with her own family.

Christmas ended too soon in Paula's opinion and soon enough her siblings were off again. Then summer rolled around and it was back to spending as much time as possible with Landon. She would have hung out with Ruth if the older girl stayed home, but Ruth had made more friends that Paula couldn't hang out with cause she was just a kid. She was forced to watch her sister drift further and further away from her. That made two siblings that Hogwarts had taken from her. She would be glad when she went because then she could hang out with them and keep them from drifting further away.

August came and went along with three Hogwarts letters and the ten year old watched them go off again and come back at Christmas. Well Landon and Ruth came home. Benjamin didn't see the point in coming home when there was a bigger library to study from at the school. With summer came her siblings being home again. Ruth was off with friends almost everyday. She was now too busy to hang out with her "lame, annoying little sister" and Benjamin was always off somewhere trying to learn about things. Apparently he had the idea in his mind to work in the ministry when he got older and that meant spending all his time being a bookworm with what seemed to be no social interaction.

Hogwarts

When August rolled around the owl returned carrying four letters instead of three. She'd finally turned old enough to go off to school. The blonde girl happily went with her siblings to Diagon that summer and got all of her things and on the train ride to school she waved good-bye to her parents before finding a seat with Landon and a couple of his friends. The sorting scared her because she really wanted to go into the same house as Landon, but apparently something in her made the hat decide Ravenclaw. She didn't know how she felt about that since Ravenclaw was the house that took her brother from her. Her first year of school was nothing like she was expecting it to be.

The defense professor was mean and didn't teach them anything. She quickly buckled down to teach herself the first year defense material that she should have been learning in class and just continued to teach herself things. A couple of times she wound up in detention with the crazy lazy and learned why people who had detention with her hated her even more than those who didn't. Other than everyone seeming to turn against the defense professor the year wasn't very interesting, until the end when Potter and his gang left the school in search of who knows what.

The blonde girl didn't know what to think about the fact that the rumors about You-Know-Who being back were true. It meant that things were going to get a lot more complicated and it also meant a lot of people were in danger. She worried about her father who was a muggle born. What was going to happen to him? Would he be hunted down? And her mother might as well be considered a blood traitor. Did that mean her whole family was in danger? She spent a lot of time thinking on it and as summer came and all the students headed home she didn't know what to think. She talked to her friends. Told them to write over the summer.

For the beginning of the summer everything was good and fine. Things were a bit strained at home because everyone was caught up in their own thoughts and worries about what was coming since You-Know-Who was back. Then devastating news hit the family Nicholas Kendrick was dead. The news was hard and each member took it differently. Her mother became very closed off and hardly talked to them, her eldest brother withdrew into himself and only focused on school work and following in their dad's footsteps, Landon became so overbearing and protective that it got on everyone's nerves, and Ruth stayed out all the time hardly spending any time at home. Paula took the news a bit hard and spend a lot of time crying. It was hard to get over it when her mother and one brother always stayed holed up in their rooms, her sister was never home, and her other brother hardly let her out of his sight. She began to take more comfort with her friends.

The blonde was happy to go back to school. She stayed spent a lot of time with friends and a lot less time being around her brother. She started avoiding Landon and his overprotective attitude. A good deal of her time not with friends was studying and keeping her grades up. Then Christmas holidays rolled around and crap hit the fan. They got home only to find out her mother had moved them while they had been gone. The blonde blew up at that. She threw a huge fit, throwing things and breaking things and yelling at both her mother and oldest brother. Benjamin didn't make things better with his mean words about her relationship with their father. Finally she just left. She walked out of the house and just kept walking. It wasn't until she was attacked by Anubis Anpu -a vampire that she never learned the name of- that she changed a little. She regretted her words, but even after the near death experience things at home didn't improve.

Going back to school was a bit of relief and Paula doesn't even know if she wants to go back home this summer and is starting to wonder if there's a chance she can get a friend to let her stay with them instead.
