PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Reseph is of average height for a boy his age, standing at 5'8", though like most boys his age Reseph would love nothing more than to be just a little bit taller than he actually is. Reseph has mid-length black hair which he never seems to pay any attention to, and dark brown eyes which always look as though they are trying to burn a hole in whatever he is looking at. Reseph is not one to pay very much mind to his appearance, though of course that changes from time to time if he is trying to impress someone - be it a girl or a person of some importance. Because Reseph likes to think of himself as being extremely important himself, he takes the time to look just a little bit more well-taken care of when such people are around.

The only thing about his appearance that Reseph really cares about is a long scar he has in the small of his back. He got it when he was a little boy and likes to think of himself as some kind of courageous battle-hero for bearing such a mark of courage and strength, when the truth of the matter is that he merely got it after an altercation with another boy in the bazaars.

PERSONALITY, TRAITS & QUIRKS

Reseph is a boy who is very set in who he is and will not change no matter what anyone else says to him. He is a very driven and determined boy, though some might say that his drive is not set in the right direction. All he cares about is making a name for himself, and he could care less how it is done. Whether it is for good reasons or bad, he feels the need to ensure that everyone recognize just how important he is. Why he feels this sense of entitlement and superiority is another matter altogether, but it has resulted in Reseph being a very foolhardy and stubborn boy.

Reseph is the kind of person who likes to be in charge, though he will sometimes be willing to take a backseat to things if he knows the other person well enough. Reseph can be condescending and abrasive at times, but he is only trying to prove his worth to himself and those around him. Only when he is around those who he considers to be his friends does Reseph drop his guard and allow himself to just have fun for the sake of having fun, without the need to constantly remind everyone around him about how great he is at everything. Braggadocios at times, Reseph is always quick with a joke - even if most of his jokes are somewhat offensive and annoying.

HISTORY & PAST

Reseph grew up in the Egyptian city of Cairo as the only son of Asim and Fionola Elserdi. Asim and Fionola met in Mecca in 1976 when the two of them were there on the pilgrimage that is a required tenant of the Muslim faith. There they became very well acquainted, and when Asim returned to Egypt after his pilgrimage Fionola went with him. Asim was very hesitant to become involved with Fionola, as she was a Muggle and therefore knew nothing about him and the life that he lead. However as time went on he became more and more trusting of her, and eventually confided his secret with her.

Fionola did not believe Asim at first, and left him for some time - declaring that he had made it all up and wanted to make a fool of her. However, before she left Egypt Asim chased after her and proved his honesty, and though Fionola was terrified of the thought of magic she decided to give him a chance. By the time that 1978 was coming to an end, the two were happily married and just a few months later - in July of 1979 - they learned that Fionola was pregnant with their first child.

Reseph Ptolemy Elserdi was born on October 16, 1980, and the happy couple was confident that there was no finer boy in all of the world. Though the two originally planned on having more children their plans never panned out, and so Reseph was raised as an only child who - as a result - was very often spoiled rotten by his very loving parents. All of his life Reseph was told that he was the most amazing boy in the entire world, and he believed every word of it.

The Elserdi family was never particularly wealthy, but they got by well enough - which was more than many Egyptian families in the 80's could say. As an only child with a stay-at-home mother, Reseph was always treated like a pampered little prince, and so has grown up to believe that everyone should pay him some kind of respect and attention. At the same time however, he has grown up to place great expectations upon himself, the vast majority of which he can never achieve.

Because of the way in which he was brought up - to believe that he was the best and brightest that there was - Reseph was no stranger to confrontation over the years, often getting into fights with other local children in the city streets who took offense to his constant bragging. It was after one such incident that Reseph received the scar on his back which he now tells everyone he got in a fight with a mercenary who was trying to rob him. This experience tempered Reseph's bragging nature somewhat, though he still continued to be exceptionally cocky and overconfident.

Because he was raised predominantly by his mother - who was a Muggle and therefore knew nothing of the magical world besides what her husband had told her over the years - Reseph grew up with more Muggle habits than magical ones. Indeed upon entering his First Year at Blessed Isis, many of his classmates refused to believe that Reseph was of Mixed-Blood, insisting that he had to be Muggle Born.

Still, Reseph has done his best over the years to catch up on what he has missed, knowing that his upbringing left him a few steps behind his peers. As time went by, he has cast aside many of his Muggle habits and hobbies in place of more 'proper' magical ones, something which his mother has always been rather upset about. Indeed Fionola Elserdi often laments that she wishes she could have her 'little boy' back, feeling as though she does not understand Reseph quite as much as she used to.

Still, throughout these times, Reseph has remained as driven as ever. Always determined to prove that he is indeed as special and important as his parents always told him he was. His grades were always quite good - though admittedly he could do to put more effort into his studies - but he never felt the need as the grades just came naturally to him.
