physical appearance

Tyler stands at average height for a fifteen year old, being right around 5’7” and still growing – or so he would certainly hope. Tyler has always been right in the middle of the pack when it comes to height, neither amongst the tallest nor the shortest of his friends at any point – a fact which has consistently served to annoy him, making him feel as though there is nothing special or distinguishing about him.

Tyler sports a neatly trimmed crop of brown hair which hangs just above his eyes. Tyler has often considered letting it grow longer so as to get the hair-over-eyes bad-boy look that all the girls seem to love so much, but in the end he has never gone through with it for fear that it will make him look like an idiot. Tyler has always been very self-conscious about his appearance, never thinking that he looks good enough and equally terrified of looking worse than he already does.

Tyler has hazel eyes which have always been the part about his appearance that he has found to be the most interesting – which is not exactly saying very much as pretty much every aspect of it is average as can possibly be. His eyes though, at least in his opinion, are a complex enigma which no one can solve. Or at least he thinks so – though a cursory poll of his friends and relatives would reveal that no one has even the slightest idea what he is talking about. But, so as not to hurt his feelings, they just nod and mumble their agreement.

Tyler was raised in a household with very simple rules – the harder you worked the harder you could play, and so Tyler worked as hard as he could each and every day of his life. A young, easily excitable, and energetic boy, Tyler took the time out of each and every day to study like his parents said before going outside to play with his friends. After all, if his parents told him to do it then it had to be very important!

Of course, the fact that Tyler found himself naturally loving books did not exactly make matters difficult. For some reason he found reading to be just as much fun – if not moreso at times – than climbing trees and racing his older brothers across the fields they lived by. And so Tyler became a very well-read and somewhat knowledgeable young boy – though of course he thought that he knew much more than he did.

Tyler loves to show off how smart he thinks that he is, and often gets himself caught in situations where he does not know the answer to the questions that he so cleverly posed to those around him. He can come across as a bit of a show-off from time to time, but at the end of the day all he is really trying to do is make people see that he does have a thing – and learning is that thing.

Of course, Tyler is no shut-in bookworm, and when the reading is done he’ll eagerly put down the book and head outside with the other boys – a fact which was inevitable with two elder brothers. His sisters were more keen on their baby brother sticking to books, but like any boy he did not value their opinion very much.

Though he can be snarky and condescending to those he does not know, but he tries his best to be sweet and polite to everyone. Tyler values his friends more than anything, and to them he is always the nice supportive friend who has your back … so long as it doesn’t get in the way of study time!

past and history

Tyler James Nevitt was born on November 2, 1980 to what was already a family overflowing with children. The eighth child, and third boy in an already large family, Tyler was looking perfectly placed to be the spoiled, overly protected, horribly coddled youngest son. And indeed that was exactly what Tyler became, as parents and siblings alike all seemed to think it was their personal responsibility to take care of ‘widdle baby TJ’.

Thankfully though, there were two people who did not seem to think that Tyler needed more coddling than a teddy bear – his older brothers Bryce and Wren. In their eyes, all of this attention was turning their younger brother into a sissy little girl, and such a thing would be entirely unacceptable! For a time, their father told them to back off and leave Tyler alone, but that all changed when they found Adara leading the other girls in an attempt to stuff four year old Tyler into a frilly dress.

After that the older boys were much more aggressive with Tyler, throwing him into dangerous situations on the surrounding countryside in efforts to force him to ‘man-up’ – though these mostly ended in the boy girlishly running back home to cry to mommy.

Tyler was never a ‘manly’ boy, and indeed one could very safely say that Bryce was right in saying that Tyler was practically another girl they had to deal with. They teased him mercilessly for this, calling him ‘Taylor Julianne Nevitt”, and acting increasingly cold towards the boy. Poor Tyler took his brother’s taunting very hard indeed, and to this day he is prone to react quite explosively if anyone – jokingly or otherwise – says something to the effect of ‘stop being such a girl’.

Perhaps because of the stronger influence that his sisters exerted on him, Tyler grew up as a very sweet little boy, always giving everyone he met a cheerful smile as he tried to brighten their day. He had good manners and was attentive and interested in whatever people had to say to him.

But despite it all, he was still a boy, and that meant that there was a point at which all of that stopped. Tyler may enjoy a good book, but like any other boy he would never say no to a good day of playing outside in the dirt. Tyler was the kind of boy who could immediately go from serenely reading Jane Eyre one minute to violently wrestling his brother into the mud the next and not see anything wrong with either of the two.

Tyler was naturally the last in his family to go to Hogwarts, and thanks to his late birthdate in November he was nearing his twelfth birthday when he finally got to go to Hogwarts for the first time – brimming with excitement at all the stories he had been told. At last he would go to Hogwarts and be able to learn all those new things just like his older brothers!

He was determined, above all else, to do well in school and prove to his parents that they were right for trusting him. He would work hard, and play hard – and for three years at Hogwarts he has done just that. Now in his 4th Year, the recently turned fifteen year old faces new distractions and temptations to keep him away from his studies.
