Ariel entered the mansion where an annual high society party was being taking place. She was wearing a designer dress and had gotten the full star treatment for this. Not that she really wanted it, since most of this was all just a publicity stunt. Invites to this party were really about who would make the biggest impressions on the press. This meant a night of rubbing elbows with other Quidditch stars, wizard world musicians, celebrities, and any other high end families. She always felt awkward at these things, but it was her job to do it and so she had to go.

She walked through the groups mingling around the spacious rooms of the mansions. She knew these people, not personally, but by name and face no less. It didn't make her feel like she had to go and talk to them however. She'd much rather be flying on her broomstick then having to make small talk with these people. She found a small spot against the wall to stop and watch the crowd, her plan for most of the night.

"To another night of glitz and glamor," she said mostly to herself raising her glass in a fake toast. She was already bored and really didn't see any need to hide the fact. She took a drink of the champagne.

These sorts of parties, the kinds that were attended by the various celebrities and other well-known people of Wizarding society, were not the kind of thing Siobhan really enjoyed. She had always thought she'd get used to it but every time she found herself feeling both nervous and bored throughout the whole thing, and she always tried to leave as soon as possible. Fellow players she didn't mind talking to, but she had no interest in conversing with random so-called famous people or socialites who were completely up themselves. After a while, the false smile started to hurt her cheeks.

As luck would have it, Siobhan had ended up at tonight's party on her own, which was basically her worst nightmare. Normally she would have at least one or two team mates with her, but none of them had been able to attend the night- or so they'd said- and yet somehow she had been dragged into it. Currently she stood at the edge of the room clutching an almost empty glass of champagne, not feeling altogether comfortable in the fancy dress she was wearing. She scanned the room, simultaneously looking for a familiar face and trying to avoid the gazes of prying journalists.

Suddenly her gaze fell on the face of a girl who looked all too familiar; it was Ariel Singleton, the Fitchburg Finches' seeker. Siobhan felt a wave of relief sweep over her. She didn't see a lot of Ariel, mainly for geographical reasons, but she'd spoken to her a few times and she liked her. At any rate, she would've spoken to pretty much anyone now.
Siobhan strode towards Ariel, closing the small gap between them in a few seconds. "Hi," she said, greeting her fellow sportswoman with a bright smile.

Ariel looked over at who had just greeted her. She returned the smile," Oh hey Siobhan! Did you get suckered into this as well?" She motioned to their surroundings and rolled her eyes. It was no secret amongst her teammates that she hated these types of things, and she could only assume the other quidditch players knew aswell.

She took another sip from her champagne and watched as the newest musical heartthrob walked in, causing a minor ruckus at the front door. She watched a moment as the younger socialites wrestled slightly to get closer to him. Ariel laughed a little to herself at this, choosing to find humor in this rather than annoyance.

"Somehow, yes," Siobhan replied with a wry smile. She was still feeling a little uneasy, but bumping into Ariel had definitely calmed her nerves a little, almost instantly. Ariel seemed to be having an easier time of it than she was, but she knew she probably wasn't enjoying the event much either.

Siobhan drained the last few sips of her drink and placed the empty drink on the table behind her. "Who's that, then?" she asked Ariel, gesturing with a nod over to the commotion by the door. She couldn't quite see who all the girls were crowded around, but she could only assume it was another boring celebrity.

Postby Rose Kennedy » Sat Mar 31, 2012 10:46 pm

In a corner stood Rose Kennedy. Rose was very much in her element, being at a high society party. Most people knew her family's name and were quick to speak with her. Of course, Rose, oblivious to a great amount of things, did not quite realize that people didn't quite realize that people didn't really wish to speak to her because of her, but merely because she was a Kennedy. It was a sad fact, but it was probably best that she was oblivious to such a harsh reality.

Currently she was surrounded by many people. For the most part, the people surrounding them were her friends( or so she thought) but some of them were people she worked with or the occasional person who knew her father.

Smile spread, Rose giggled as someone said a joke, seeming to be oblivious of everything around her.

Ariel looked at the crowd by the door, she wasn't entirely sure who the male celebrity there was, but she did know the woman who was also surrounded by her own crowd.

"Oh no," she muttered, her eyes narrowing on the brunnette," Rose Kennedy is here?" The fact shouldn't surprise her, this was just the setting she was sure Rose would flourish in. She chugged the rest of her champagne fast, and a waiter picked it up from her right away.

Ariel looked over at Siob," Sorry, I went to school with that girl... she's not.... one of my most favorite people." Ariel's attention turned back again to Rose, perhaps she could avoid her for the evening. It shouldn't be too hard to get lost in this crowd, a reunion with Rose would probably not turn out the best and Ariel wasn't looking to make a scene.

She picked up another champagne flute from a passing waiter and took a generous drink from it. She made to grab for Siob's hand," I heard there is a room here with a lot of Quidditch memorabilia, perhaps we can go find that?"

Siobhan searched the room with her eyes, trying to spot the person Ariel was referring to. She had no idea who Rose Kennedy was, though she had to be someone fairly important if she was a guest at this party.
"Oh, her," Siobhan said casually as she spotted the brunette Ariel had her eyes on. "Yeah I passed it on my way in, it's over there somewhere." She pointed to the other side of the room, her direction showing that to reach the Quidditch memorabilia, they would have to pass by Rose.
"What's the problem with this Kennedy girl, anyway?" Siobhan asked Ariel with mild interest.

A frown came to Rose's face as she noticed her chute was empty. "Oh, sorry Rosalie." she said, her tone completely dismissive. "You'll have to excuse me. I didn't catch what you said." she said. "But, I'm out of champagne, so I'll just head over to where the server is." she said, making a vague gesture to where a server holding a tray of chutes was standing.

Rose carefully moved out of her crowd and began to move across the crowd, heading towards where the server. Unfortunately, luck was something not completely on her side and she had inevitably crossed with Ariel. "Oh s-" she said, about to apologize. Such manners were a tad rare, but in public she did use them. Appearances were everything after all. However, as soon as Rose saw who she had bumped into, the words died on her lips, her lips forming into a displeased scowl.

Ariel was relieved that Siobhan knew where the memorabilia was, it would mean they could move on quickly and hopefully help to avoid one of her least favorite people. She moved in the direction Siob had pointed dragging her along.

"What's the problem with this Kennedy girl, anyway?"

"She's just the most stuck up, self-centered, egotistical...." Ariel was cut off as she was bumped into by... none other than the girl she was describing. A scowl immediately came to her face at the girl, which was quickly matched when Rose saw that Ariel was the person she had run into.

"I think you were going to say sorry," she said, finishing Rose's sentence for her, her voice making her disdain very apparent. Glancing over at the direction that Rose had been moving she could see the waiter with the champagne, now down to just one. Despite already having one herself she picked up the last one the waiter had and sipped from it thoughtfully, not wanting to pass up an opportunity to make it a bit more inconvenient for Rose.
'
Ariel didn't usually feel the need to treat people this way, but Rose had lived a life where everything was handed to her on a silver plate. Rose was someone who just ate up the attention and never really earned anything, just took it. It brought out the worst in Ariel when she was around simply because she found it so infuriating.

"I'm a bit shocked you could bring yourself to make an appearance tonight," she said finally to Rose," Are you sure the standards are high enough for you?"

Before Ariel could finish explaining her problem, the two of them came to a halt in front of the very girl she'd been discussing. Siobhan looked at the girl, and then back to Ariel. They were looking at each other with similar expressions of distaste, and it was clear they really, really disliked each other. How strange. She couldn't really imagine why anyone would hate Ariel so much, but then she didn't really know her all that well herself.
Siobhan crossed her arms, feeling a little uncomfortable at the hostile exchange. She cleared her throat gently, and glanced around the room, hoping the conversation would end pretty quickly.

"Hardly." Rose said, disdain written across her face. "If anyone is less deserving of such a thing, it would be you Singleton." she said coldly. Rose rarely did give out apologies and if she ever did give them out they were usually for show, completely fake in manner. The real ones were only really given to people she admired or truly believed deserved them. And truly she didn't believe Singleton deserved one. After all, the girl had seemed to hate her since day one and Rose hardly understood why and such a person would never get any type of apology from her, no matter what.

She merely sneered, biting her tongue for once and not replying to the bait. She was, after all, in public and thus representing her family. If there was anything she would never do it was disgrace the family. And replying to that jab in the way she would likely disgrace her parents and the Kennedy name.

She glanced over at Siobhan. "I see you have a friend..." she said, raising an eyebrow at the girl. To anyone else the girl might of looked familiar, but Rose was hardly the type to keep up with Quidditch. The girl's face was hardly recognizable to her. "You are...?" she asked, some type of politeness lurking in her voice.

Ariel didn't say anything about Rose's retort. It was the same as all the other interactions she seemed to have with the girl. It was obvious neither of them really wanted to make a scene, but for Ariel it was a bit hard not to throw at least a jab in here or there.

"I see you have a friend..."

Ariel turned her attention to Siobhan at the same time as Rose. She had to bite back another jab about how of course she had a friend, and that it was an actual friend and not any of the 'yes man' friends Rose chose to surround herself with.

"You are...?"

Figures, Ariel thought while rolling her eyes, of course Rose wouldn't bother to keep up with the names of any of the other celebrities that could be out and about. She was about to introduce Siob, but then waited, figuring she may as well let her friend get her first interaction first hand. It was likely that she would get the same treatment as Ariel from Rose anyway. Once that was over they could move on to their destination and try to suffer the rest of the night Kennedy free.

Realising Rose was addressing her, Siobhan looked back at her reluctantly. She was genuinely trying not to be judgemental, but going by the what Ariel said and the few seconds of conversation she'd just heard, she wasn't really interested in talking to the girl. She couldn't deny that she at least sounded polite though, so she offered up a very small smile.

"Siobhan Moran," she replied, her tone neutral "Sorry, I didn't get your name...?" She was ignoring the fact that Ariel had already explained who she was, because she got the feeling Rose already expected everyone to know her, and wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to test that.

By this point Rose was completely ignoring Ariel, something that was quite easy to do. A smile had made its way to Rose's face. The smile was genuine and that fact seemed to spill through in its appearance. Contrary to what most thought, Rose was actually genuinely kind to those she associated herself with in public. However, she had the fault of being highly oblivious and didn't quite realize that those she was associating herself with were not doing the same, being mere "yes-men".

The girl's name rang a dull bell in her mind, but she couldn't completely remember from where. "What a lovely name." she said lightly.

At the girl's words, a certain glint entered her eyes, subtle in its nature. Rose had always been taught that people should know of the Kennedys. To not was despicable. After all, their family was above all. Of course, she herself had ended up adopting such beliefs. And so the fact that the girl didn't seem to know her name did slightly bug her, however she immediately made up an excuse. Perhaps the girl was foreign? Or, perhaps she did know of her but it was escaping her. Or perhaps she was merely waiting for Rose to introduce herself. And so, any aggravation that wanted to rise to the surface managed to stay put...just barely. "Rose Kennedy." she said smoothly.

Ariel simply watched the two exchange pleasantries. She had to hand it to Siobhan asking for the Rose's name, especially since Ariel had already told her who she was. She watched Rose's reaction, beaming inside, seeing it as a small victory that Siobhan didn't play into the fame thing.

It was obvious that Rose took the question as a bit of a jab, but it was probably only noticable because Ariel was looking for it. This simply made Ariel smile more, suddenly a bit amused by the situation. She was not, however, amused enough to actually try and stick around.

"Well, it's been nice Rose, I suppose you need to get back to your adoring crowd," Ariel said making the word adoring more a jab than anything else," Siobhan and myself will just move on to our own tasks."

"Thank you," Siobhan said politely in response to Rose's comment about her name, though she was entirely sure it was not a sincere comment. "Rose Kennedy," she repeated, nodding. If Ariel hadn't told her a few seconds ago, the name wouldn't have rung any bells, though she thought mentioning this might just push Rose over the edge. "Nice to meet you," she added automatically.

Had Rose been anyone else, she might have realized that Siobhan actually believed the things Ariel told her. Believed that Rose was nothing but a manipulator, kept people around for her entertainment, was nothing but a heartless person and was just another typical pureblood girl. But alas, Rose was naive and despite the intelligence she possessed she had never been good at analyzing people. She couldn't tell that Siobhan didn't like her, just like everyone else...

"You are quite welcome." she said, a quite genuine smile coming to her face, her eyes lighting up. Her eyes darted to Ariel, a deep frown briefly coming to her face, before vanishing. "You too." she said. "Well, it seems you must be going.." she said, internally feeling more depressed at that thought. After all, even if this person was acquainted with Ariel she didn't seem too bad and Rose had always been the social type.
