Appearance
Catherine is quite fit, she kind of has to be if she wants to have a job to go to and do her job well. She trains regularly, not just Quidditch, but goes for jogs, lifts weights and generally keeps herself in shape through other forms for exercise as well. She does have a few bumps and bruises on her body, most sustained through a match or during practice, though she has a few scars that she’s gotten while jogging in the forest and tripping over a branch on the ground.
She has long, a little shorter than her mid-back, blonde hair that, unlike her sisters, isn’t as thin as blonde hair usually tends to be for Norwegians. However, like most Norwegians, she’s naturally quite pale and her skin isn’t overly fond of the sun if it’s been awhile since it’s seen any. She has dark blue eyes and a fondness for biting her fingernails if she’s stressed, she’s gotten better, but occasionally you see the tell-tale signs of bitten-down nails suggesting that she’s worried about a big match or something else.
She’s about 5’7” tall and carries herself rather proudly, she’s not the kind of person that hunches her shoulders together and tries to disappear, but the kind that squares her shoulders and straightens her back and marches straight into a room. Her demeanor is overall confident and she isn’t afraid to take up the space she needs, and on occasion doesn’t need, but want anyway, wherever she goes.
Personality
Catherine is first and foremost very determined, which also, in her case, translates to her being very stubborn. She has no trouble going after what she wants and if she gets passionate enough she’ll forget everyone else around her until reality snaps at her heels and brings her back to the ground. Mostly though she doesn’t get too out of hand and is pretty level-headed, still, if she gets caught up in something, getting her attention towards something else is not always easy and she’s certainly not the easiest person to get to back down either.
Part of it comes from being the oldest of three sisters, three sisters that are, essentially, quite different from one another. The Stockwood house was never the quietest house, well, except for when Catherine left and she and Therese no longer went toe to toe at any given opportunity. Catherine is, the older and bossier sister by far, for the most part she’s the one that told the others what to do and she certainly didn’t take any commands from her younger siblings.
Still, Catherine isn’t mean, she’s mostly quite friendly and outgoing, feeling her best when she’s surrounded by people and having fun. She isn’t exactly boisterous, but if the mood is right she’ll quickly be one of the louder people there. She can get a little caught up in what’s happening around her and doesn’t always think farther than “what do we do now”, sometimes the concept of consequences and thinking ahead completely slips her mind altogether.
That said, if there’s something she’s really and truly interested in, like Quidditch, she can get tunnel-vision and pursue that almost single-mindedly and she demands a great deal of herself as well and also of the people around her. She expects the best from herself and isn’t satisfied unless the people around her show her that they too are doing their very best, and even then she might demand that they, and her, do even better.
Catherine does have slight difficulties with figuring out when good enough, really is good enough and when she should back down. This goes for both herself and people around her. She can be quite demanding of her sisters, forgetting that they aren’t completely similar, but she’s even worse towards herself.
Even so, in the midst of it all, what matters most to Catherine is that her siblings are happy and that, even if she doesn’t agree that they couldn’t do better, that her siblings are content with whatever they are doing. The same goes for her friends as well, she might be difficult to deal with sometimes and a bit too single-minded at times, but at the end of the day what she really wants is for her friends to be happy, even so, it might take a fight or two to get her to see someone else’s point of view and it is something that has cost her a few friends over the year.
Strengths: Determined, friendly, passionate
Weaknesses:Demanding, reckless, stubborn
History
Catherine was born in 1972 to Marlene Peterson and Amadeus Stockwood, she was their first child and her arrival was met with mixed reactions. According to her mother, Catherine was born early, according to her, Catherine should’ve been born quite a few weeks later than she was and while the family was happy to have her, they weren’t as happy with the rumors that went around that the two had had a shot-gun wedding just before Marlene started showing.
For Catherine, most of that didn’t really matter to her upbringing although her parents never really were the very supporting and loving type, they did take care of her baser needs. It didn’t help matters much that Catherine wanted to do things her own way, on her own, and not the way her mother wished she’d do things and up until Therese’s arrival in 1976 that was something Catherine was lectured on day in and day out.
After the arrival of her sister Catherine was mostly left alone, her parents made sure she didn’t do anything that would embarrass them too much, but as Therese turned out to be far easier to form into what they wanted, Catherine was left to do what she wanted for the most part.
Still, her mother wasn’t exactly thrilled when she wrote home and told them that she’d auditioned for Quidditch and been accepted when she went to Durmstrang. Her parents didn’t really feel that it was the proper thing for a young lady to do and for a while things were really quite tense at home as her parents tried to persuade her to do something else instead.
Catherine however remained stubborn and ever so slowly her parents came around to the idea, only to bring on pressure for Catherine to be good, really really good, at Quidditch. Having for the most part been left to her own devices, her parent’s sudden pressure caught Catherine off guard and caused a bit of stress during her later years of school. Her parents felt that, if she was going to play Quidditch, she should go as far as possible and for Catherine, Quidditch had up until then purely been something she did for fun next to school.
And when graduation rolled around it was her parents that pushed her towards playing professionally, and while Catherine really did enjoy (and do enjoy) Quidditch she never really had much of a chance to contemplate what else she might want to do.
Still, she auditioned for several teams and was eventually accepted onto the Wimbourne Wasps were she was a reserve player up until she turned 21 at which point she was transferred to Braga Broomfleet where she’s stayed since.
Her joining professional Quidditch was probably the first, and so far, only time where her parents actually managed to push her into anything. Catherine credits this to the fact that, when school was nearing its end, she was feeling rather stressed about what she would do after she graduated. She had a hard time figuring out what would be right for her. She’d spent most of her school years studying and playing Quidditch and being social, never really thinking, or planning, further ahead than what she was doing next week and when the reality of graduation came upon her she was so stressed that she was just grateful her parents took a bit of control and decided for her.
Still, while she really does enjoy playing, she does have a nagging uncertainty in the back of her mind whether she’s doing it because it’s what her parents want her to do and because she’s scared to try something else and fail or if it’s something she really wants to continue doing for a career.
At the moment she focuses on practices and matches, thinking that, when she has to decide what to do, she’ll figure out something but right now she’s pushing off all thoughts of doubts and living in the moment. Which may or may not be the smartest thing.
