A Nice Day For An Interview

It was beautiful out. The sun was out and shining and birds were chirping. Sure, it was fall, so it was a little cool out, but it didn't stop most people from still being out in shorts and t-shirts. Liam himself took the chance to dress in casual clothing. He really didn't want to be too hot, so robes had been tossed aside for more interesting sense of fashion. He wore blue jeans, sneakers, and a light blue, short sleeve, button up shirt. He had a watch on his left wrist. A notebook lay on the table in front of him, a quill resting atop it. The male was more into his ice cream than his notebook. Usually he was attached to it, jotting down notes and ideas.

lorean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour was the meeting place where he was meeting the Seeker of the Chudley Cannons. For some reason, he was extremely excited. It wasn't like he was talking to Viktor Krum or a member of the Kenmare Kestrel's or even the Wimbourne Wasps. This was the Chudley Cannons, one of the worst teams in the League. And yet he wanted to interview Chiara. He wanted to understand why this team. Why did she pick the Cannons? He had plans to talk with Mathias, the captain, as well. Maybe he could shed some light onto why members pick the team. After all, he had interviewed Mat before when he first came over to England to play. It'd be nice to catch up with him. Liam considered everyone he interviewed as a friend. He hated putting distance between himself and the person he interviewed, or else it just wouldn't be any fun.

Liam made a funny face as he stuck his spoon into his mouth. Since when did they have to have Sour Apple flavored Bertie Botts Every Flavor Ice Cream?

Of course, Chiara Santorini wasn't interviewed nearly as often as the real Quidditch celebrities were. Her team didn't exactly have the best reputation, unless being losers counted as a good reputation. Usually, the magazines and newspapers didn't care too much about the Chudley Cannons, so Chi hadn't been to that many interviews. She had been to some, all of which had been really fun, so she was excited for today. Especially because it was the Daily Prophet, probably the most read magazine in Great Britain.

Chi wasn't actually as late as usual, when she arrived at Florian Fortescue's. She liked that place, and ice cream was one of her favourite things to eat. She approached the table at which a man was sat, who she assumed worked for the Daily Prophet.

"Heya," she greeted with a grin as she sat down. "I'm Chiara," she added. Even though he probably knew that already.

Liam liked that it was a nice day out. It made it perfect ice cream weather. He would have rather enjoyed being able to sit with his nephew, eating ice cream like this. But he was off at Hogwarts, hopefully getting a good education. So far he hadn't received any owls stating otherwise. So he figured his nephew was doing just fine, especially after what happened last year. But Keane was a good kid and would surely keep out of trouble.

As soon as the funny face episode had passed, a voice greeted him. He smiled at the young woman, getting to his feet. "Miss Chiara, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Liam Shea, the Senior Quidditch Correspondent for the Daily Prophet. Please sit down, sit down." He was extremely friendly by nature, and always happy when he was getting to do something related to Quidditch, whether it be interviewing a player or watching a match to report on it. There was never a dull moment.

Liam opened the notebook, tugging out his wand and tapping the quill as he spoke, "I hope you don't mind me taking notes, I'm actually quite curious as to all of the on-goings with the Chudley Cannons. Being a Cannons fan I'm quite excited to learn about one of the teams newer players." The quill began to float and moved as he asked his first question, "I'm sure many are wondering this question, why exactly did you pick the Chudley Cannons over the other teams of England?" It was the question he wanted to get out of the way, and the biggest question someone might have.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too," Chi smiled as she sat down. This guy seemed nice. Though in her world, it often didn't matter to her if other people were friendly or not, she always treated them in the same bubbly and cheerful way. But it was still nice to encounter someone who was friendly as well, especially if she had to spend some time with him for the interview.

"No, go ahead," she said as he took out a quill to take notes. It wasn't the first interview she had done, even though she hadn't really done many. Chiara Santorini was one of the newer players, after all. His first question wasn't really a surprise, it was something most people wanted to know. There were other teams in England with a better reputation, yet she had signed up with the Chudley Cannons.

"I think it was more of a sentimental thing, I was a huge fan of the Cannons as a kid." Chiara said. "They were my favourite team, so when I tried out and was given the chance to play for them, I took it immediately."

Chiara seemed nice. The players who were nice were always the most pleasant to interview. Most players were either sweet when first being interviewed or full of themselves for making it pro. And then there were the older players who were still nice or the ones who went from being nice to being full of themselves. He much preferred the nice over those who were full of themselves. It was so hard to keep himself from smacking some of these younger players who are so full of themselves and thinking they were God's gift to Quidditch.

Liam nodded when Chi gave him the go ahead to begin. As he asked the questions, his quill wrote everything down and it wrote down her responses. He really didn't like taking the notes himself, as he liked being able to pay his full attention to the player he was interviewing. He didn't like missing little details, such as he they reacted to his questions.

"Does the record of the Chudley Cannons ever make you lose hope that the Cannons Curse will continue?" He wondered if the Cannons lack of wins in so many decades effected how it's players viewed their chances in their matches. Especially since Chiara was new, he wanted her view on the matter. He already knew the Captain thought it ridiculous, but how did newer members see it.

"Oh, they've got to continue," Chi said, without even thinking about it. She never thought about the team being disbanded because they never won, that wasn't how it worked. They were a team, no matter if they were good or not.

"I mean, like, I never lose hope, really. They're my team, if everyone loses hope it'll just lower our chances of winning." Chi smiled. Some members of the team were losing hope, she could tell. Even her closest friend would get depressed when they lost a match. "If we're not optimistic, it'll never work out."

Liam nodded, listening to the words with a faint smile on his lips. She spoke like a true Chudley Cannon. He wondered if she was even aware of how integrated to the team's mind of thinking she was. "Who do you think is the most important member of the team?" He wondered if she viewed it as herself since she was the one who had to catch the snitch to ensure victory. Or maybe she viewed it as the Chasers as they had to help secure a lead. Or maybe the Beaters to help try and keep the games from being a runaway. Or maybe the Keeper because he had to work hard to block the goals. Or maybe it was the Captain or coaches, as they were the backbone of the team. "What do you think of your team Captain?" He honestly liked knowing how the teammates viewed Mathias. He was an interesting character, that was for sure.

"Actually, I think the Captain is probably the most important member of the team," Chiara nodded. His two questions linked together, in her mind. "Mathias is great, he's really enthusiastic. It's what the team needs really, because without enthusiasm we'd get nowhere."

"He has hopes for our team, and he definitely makes sure that we all show up to trainings on time," Chi laughed. "Even if it is a challenge sometimes."

The quill kept writing as Chiara answered the question. Liam couldn't help but nod along. He believed a Captain was important. He couldn't help but smile a little as the girl praised Mathias. "Haha. I can imagine. I used to play Quidditch back in my Hogwarts years and just going to that practice was challenging. I can't imagine the schedule of a Professional. Would you care to share what your weekly schedule usually looks like?"

"Oh, it can be really hectic, and it changes every week usually," Chiara nodded. Though she did like a bit of adventure, she usually didn't mind it being so hectic.

"But we train almost every day, I fly every day anyway. Just so that we don't lose our touch, we have to keep active."

"That actually sounds quite nice." Liam noted. He used to do that all the time back in school. It was really good at letting you lose all your cares. "Do you have any worries regarding the upcoming season? Maybe with your own team or a worry about another team that you will play against?" The Seeker had the most important job. So Liam loved noting the worries of players and then watching the season to see if their worries were justified or not. He had faith in Chiara and the Chudley Cannons though. So currently he didn't feel like there would be too many problems. At least, one could hope. Right?

"I try not to worry too much, actually," Chiara shrugged, "if you spend all your time worrying, it takes away from your gameplay in my opinion." Chi was also an extremely optimistic person, even though her team was on a spectacular losing streak, she didn't give up.

"Of course, being the Seeker is pressure sometimes, but I think I can handle it," she grinned. Chiara avoided the tabloids and often didn't read the stuff they said about her, so it wouldn't worry her.

Liam really liked the Cannon's new Seeker. She was quite the optimist and that was what the team needed. They were full of optimists, at least most of them were. They loved their team and was dedicated. "I'm quite glad to hear that. I have faith in you for the upcoming season. How well do you think the Cannons will do? Hoping to win the league, I hope." He really did. He wanted to see them win once more, take the Quidditch world by storm and show that they aren't just some joke team that is kept around because it used to be amazing. The team was going to make its come back one of these seasons.

"Of course, that'd be the dream," Chiara smiled. "That's what I'm going for anyway, but if it doesn't work out, we'll at least have tried our very best," she nodded. She believed that you couldn't do any more than your best, and Chi always had fun while she was flying, which was a bonus.

Liam smiled brightly at the words. "That's what I love to hear." He was going to make it a point to use those exact words in his article. "Miss Santorini, I believe you will be the next Captain one day. Mathias would be a fool to pass up such a bright, optimistic girl as yourself when he decides to finally step away from the pitch." His smile turned into a goofish grin. "But we both know, Mat. Not even a Bludger destroying his knee can get that guy off the pitch. He's as stubborn as they come. How exactly do you manage it? Being the only girl on a team full of guys?" He planned to ask the exact same thing to that Anastacio kid from Braga. He's either in heaven being surrounded by girls all day, or in complete misery.

Chiara's entire face lit up when Liam Shea told her that she could be the future captain of the Chudley Cannons someday. That would be a dream come true, she didn't even like to let herself think about it, in case it never happened and she didn't want to be disappointed.

"Oh, I don't mind it, really," Chiara shrugged, thinking about her team of guys. "I get along with most of them, and at least there's no pettiness or bitching behind somebody's back," she said. Girls could be like that sometimes, which was why Chi often preferred the company of guys.

Liam smiled. He liked the way this girl thought. He knew she would go far. He often was able to call it early when meeting someone. They were the most interesting people to watch. He loved watching the new players to track them. Someone had to record them first, after all. "Yes, that is true. It isn't like the team is made up of mean guys who can't take losing either. Michael is a good kid, and Mathias certainly wouldn't let whiners play on the team without changing their attitude. I'm sure the dynamics of the Cannons is better than that of several teams out there. Would you say your team is like a family or more like a group of friends?" He wanted an idea as to how well the Cannons were getting along.
