Trystan is tall and stocky, with broad shoulders and a wide stance, both of which make him appear larger than he is. He is quite muscular. His face is oval shaped, and slightly rounded. He doesn’t have a well defined jaw, but does have a defined nose. His eyes are close-set and a deep brown in colour, and his lips are thin. Trystan’s deep brown hair hangs in a curly mop over his head – he lets it fall where it will. His eyebrows are bushy and a shade to match his hair, as well as his slight mustache and thick stubble. He is trying to grow a beard to appear older.

When not in his school uniform, Trys will wear a simple white shirt (the formality of which would depend on the situation – sometimes it will be a button up shirt, and sometimes a t-shirt) and jeans.

Trystan is quirky, believing in the supernatural long before learning that he was a wizard. As a child, he would constantly play around with tarot cards, and this fascination carried over into his magical education. He always believed that something special would happen to him.

One would notice very quickly that Trys is quick to understand almost anything and full of ideas. In fact, he often jokes that he would be writing a textbook in the future. He is highly open to new experiences and emphatic towards his friends. Sadly, Trys is scatterbrained and spontaneous most of the time. He tends to leave his stuff lying around and panics when he can’t find something. His memory isn’t the greatest, but he likes to laugh that off most of the time. He isn’t much for control, preferring to live life as it goes. Trys is incredibly outgoing and friendly, despite knowing that he is one of the few students who actually like Divination. He is often full on energy, especially when he starts talking about the latest things he has ‘seen’. He likes to get along with people, but will not tolerate anyone making fun of him for liking Divination. Trys will stand up to anyone who laughs at him with full confidence and will not back down.

Trystan loves to live life to the fullest, and will do whatever he can to succeed; he just enjoys taking a roundabout way to get there to enjoy the scenery, so to speak. He may seem aloof at times, but get to know him, and you have a zany, quirky young man.

Of course, he is not without his flaws. Trystan tends to get himself caught up in his love of Divination and will stop everything just to focus on his homework. He also is horrible at casting defensive spells and gets easily frustrated over this. Finally, he is immensely jealous of a certain Harry Potter for receiving so much attention, especially after somehow managing to get into the Triwizard Tournament while being underage.

History

When Morgan Pumphrey married Gweneth Powell, he wasn’t expecting a magical child. After all, he was a Squib and Gweneth was a muggle. So, Trystan Pryce was born, named after Morgan’s grandfather and Gweneth’s father. Trystan’s parents were a young couple, marrying two years in their native Wales after finishing at Hogwarts and having Trystan so soon after that some people incorrectly believed they had married out of necessity.

Trystan was raised to have a carefree attitude and a general joy of life. His parents allowed him to do whatever he wanted as long as it wasn’t harmful to him or anyone else. He was the oldest child in the family, followed two years later by his sister, Winnifred, and three years after her by Rhosyn, another sister. Trys took pride in being a big brother to his little sisters, and looked after them when his parents weren’t available.

It was around the age of five that Trystan proved what Morgan had thought impossible. He had been playing tag outside with Winnifred, and somehow managed to jump to the top of the shed while Winni was chasing him. Morgan witnessed the entire thing and immediately consulted his brother, a wizard on the matter. Trystan never knew, but it was only thanks to Morgan’s family, who kept him connected to the wizarding world, that Morgan was able to recognize the fact that Trystan had received magical genes and was a wizard.

Throughout his primary school years, Trystan proved to be very interested in the supernatural, even requesting a set of tarot cards for his eighth birthday. He always commented that it would be fun to know what would happen in the future, and thus wanted to try to find out himself.

Finally, the year Trystan turned eleven, he received a letter from Hogwarts, telling him that he had a place. A professor came shortly after the letter to help the family understand what was going on, despite Morgan being aware of the wizarding world. Gweneth took it quite well, always knowing that there was something special about her first child, and Trystan’s sisters were both highly jealous. That September, he travelled to London to catch the Hogwarts Express, excited to learn magic.

At Hogwarts, Trys proved to be quite horrible at casting spells, but anything more methodical, such as potions or astronomy, he was able to grasp. It wasn’t until the end of his second year, when Trys was picking his electives that he found a class that he was sure he would love. That class was Divination, or the practice of telling the future. Trys was ecstatic that there was a class related to his childhood games, and signed up for it quickly.

The following year, Trystan was distressed to hear that as of then, he was the only lucky child in the family, as Winnifred never received her letter to Hogwarts. So, it was with a heavy heart that he returned, ready to start the year off with a blast. He soon learned at a sort of wizarding celebrity was attending, a certain Harry Potter. He wrote it off as not having much to do with him and simply threw himself into Divination and his attempts to get better at classes involving spells.

In the years to come, Trystan made friends and continued working at Divination. It was quickly apparent that it was his strongest subject, and although he was positive there was no Seer blood in him, he seemed to have quite an innate talent for the subject. In his fifth year, he took his OWLs and was pleased to find that he received an Outstanding in Divination.

Now, in his seventh year, Trystan is seriously considering options for a career involving Divination, considering he was so strong in the subject. Of course, with the bombshell that his youngest sister possessed magical powers and could attend Hogwarts starting in Trystan’s sixth year, his family is tense. Winnifred is furious that her two siblings could use magic and not her, and both Trystan and Rhosyn feel that she highly overreacted.

Throughout his seventh year, Trystan started to get nervous about his future. He isn’t sure exactly what will happen for him, as he fears he will fail his Charms NEWT. The only consolation he has is his growing belief that he may have Seer blood, which could guarantee him a job somewhere.

On August 25, 1996, Trystan received terrible news from his room in the Leaky Cauldron where he was staying while in search of a job. His mother had been found dead, presumably murdered by Death Eaters. Devastated, Trystan put his job search on hold and returned home to Wales to support his family. Throughout the entire experience, his childhood friend, Wendy was there to help him.

After failing to find a job in London, he moved his search to Hogsmeade where he also rented out an apartment to live in.
