Just as many people have told him throughout his life, Lysander looks much more obviously like his mother in appearance than his father. He inherited the wide, pale Lovegood eyes, which underneath his flaxen eyebrows give the impression of constant interest and surprise. His skin is naturally fair, but his love of sunlight and fresh air has lightly freckled his nose and cheeks with darker spots. He is of average height and weight, with an uneven lilt to his shoulders, and sharp, bony joints, most noticeable on his long-fingered hands. His frequent interaction with plants and animals has led to the constant presence of small scratches across his knuckles, cracked or bleeding fingernails, and dirty cuticles. The only real contributions from his father's genes are the wiry texture to his blonde hair and the broad, flat cheekbones.
Although he and his brother Lorcan are so identical in appearance that even their closest friends struggle to tell them apart, there are in fact several minor distinctions between the twins. Three long, narrow scars run along Lysander's right cheek, near his ear, left over from a frightening incident as a child with a manticore that his father was studying. Also, Lysander likes to spike up his hair at insane-looking angles, which generally makes it a lot easier to identify him from Lorcan.

Personality:
To put it bluntly, Lysander was always the type of child that other parents didn't want their kids playing with. He was, is, and always will be a true eccentric. He has a wide variety of unusual and potentially unhealthy habits, such as carrying around small animals in his pockets, like mice and frogs, and occasionally talking out loud to them when he gets bored. He has trouble keeping thoughts inside of his head, and when no one is around to share his ideas with, he won't hesitate to discuss them with himself. He is friendly and energetic, but his odd tendencies end up scaring people off before they get to know him, which always saddens Lysander a bit. He enjoys being around people, and is oblivious as to why they never seem to like him as much as he likes them. He is far from insecure, and will always, without fail, act precisely how he wants to.
He loves his family more than life itself, especially his twin, Lorcan. It could be said that he treats Lorcan a little bit like a security blanket, relying on him for comfort and advice, while Lorcan tries to shield him from the more cruel comments aimed at the odd pair. But while insults towards Lysander seem to bounce right off him, anything said against Lorcan will turn Lysander violent with rage.
Lysander, ever since he was little, has had two glaring faults: an inability to shy away from harmful situations, and a twisted idea of what is entertaining. He is not fearless, but he does have an altered sense of what is and isn't dangerous, particularly in regards to animals. He has no qualms about picking up poisonous snakes, or swimming with grindylows, and he'd approach a chimaera or a nundu in a heartbeat. Thank Merlin for the more reasonable Lorcan, who has without a doubt been Lysander's primary reason for survival after all these reckless years. This fascination for XXXXX classified creatures can be explained by Lysander's dark, morbid interest in violence and death. While Lysander is a bubbly, cheerful sort of person himself, he is obsessed with predatory animals and the ways they attack their prey. Gruesome death is amusing for him, which has often led people to wonder if maybe, buried deep down, he has some mild psychopathic impulses as well. That's pure speculation, however - Lysander is as harmless and affable as a fly.

Personal History:
Considering the general impression of peculiarity usually associated with both the Lovegood and Scamander family names, it was not altogether surprising to find that even the birth of the children of Luna and Rolf Scamander would be under unusual circumstances. Exactly seven and a half minutes before midnight on June 4, 2005, Lysander Scamander was born, followed less than fifteen minutes later by his identical twin, Lorcan. Technically, given the timing, the twin brothers were born on different days, a fact that in later years they would both delight in. It seemed to be a sign right from the very beginning of their lives that despite the obvious physical similarities, the boys were undeniably distinct.
With a naturalist for a mother and a magizoologist as a father, Lysander's upbringing was not quite typical. He and his brother grew up surrounded by exotic animals and plants, and their fascination for all matter of flora and fauna was developed at an early age. But while Lorcan found entertainment primarily in flowers, herbs, and mild-mannered critters, Lysander was always drawn inexplicably towards the most hazardous creatures he could find. He didn't have any concept of danger, and as it turned out, neither did his father. Rolf loved the boys very much, of course, but he was careless, and somehow never seemed to find any problem with letting six-year-old children toy around with the dangerous animals that he studied. Their play dates were with nifflers and porlocks rather than kids their own age, which perhaps could be cited as a partial explanation for their eccentricities later in life.
All oddities aside though, they were happy kids. They had a comfortable house, parents who adored them, and in each other both boys found a permanent and endlessly entertaining best friend. The only event to mar Lysander's pleasant upbringing occurred when he was eight, and was tagging along with his father on a trip to Greece, where Rolf intended to study the mating habits of manticores. Wild and curious young Lysander happened to get just a tad too close to one of the vicious creatures while Rolf was busy scribbling notes, and the brief encounter ended with Lysander in a pool of blood. Thankfully he avoided a stab from the manticore's tail, and after a week in St. Mungo's he was released with nothing more than a few faint scars left from the beast's claws.
Lysander's magical ability had been displayed so many times in the strange ways that he found to protect himself from the attacks of the violent animals he so loved that it was only to be expected when his Hogwarts letter arrived shortly after his eleventh birthday. He and Lorcan went off to Hogwarts together, and like both of his parents, Lysander wound up in Ravenclaw. The Sorting Hat debated between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff as well, but his curiosity and thirst for learning won out in the end, and he has been a proud bird ever since. Unfortunately, his first years at Hogwarts weren't easy. Snide comments about the freakish Scamander twins were not uncommon, and while Lysander was good at ignoring the insults aimed at himself, he was liable to attack anyone who was mean to his brother.
Over time, the bullying simmered down, and the pair were able to branch out and make more friends as their better qualities were finally acknowledged. Still, it often seems that Lysander enjoys school more than the people in it enjoy him, and while he'll always be everyone's go-to Care of Magical Creatures tutor, he struggles to find his niche.
