Your last chance to walk away (Esperance, Australia)

Esperance, on the south coast of Australia. Loanne didn't know why exactly she'd come here, but it had probably been the name that had sounded interesting to her. So far, the city wasn't proving to be as interesting as the girl'd suspected, but the interesting-ness of places was mostly defined by the people you met there and not the place itself, so there still were endless possibilities for Esperance to become a cool city.

The German girl had been in Australia for about a week now, and was enjoying every minute. That might also be the simple fact that she was out in the world, all by herself, but Australia itself was pretty awesome.

Loanne had one of those magical tents that were much bigger on the inside than they seemed, and had camped on the beach these past few days here in Esperance, and so far nobody's stopped her from doing it.

Right now, the girl with bright red hair with purpe and blue streaks was walking down some street close to the beach, all her belongings in her skirts' pocket. She wore a rather skinny black skirt and a wide, grey top with some enormous, colourful buttons on it. As addition, her feet were covered by red Cowboy boots. Oh yeah.

It was only her fourth day in Australia, and Bex was already beginning to feel stifled. Not by Esperance, which she had to admit, was a little better than she'd thought it would be, but by her family. It wasn't that she didn't like them, because they were her family after all, but there was only so long she could spend with them all before the 'happy family' act started to get a little too much.

Wishing she'd simply come on holiday by herself- or at least just with her youngest sister Molly, whom she actually liked- Bex had woken up that morning fully intending to explore the city by herself. She was nearly sixteen, and she needed some time alone.

Bex was now walking down a fairly empty street, gently humming to herself a Muggle song she'd heard someone playing earlier that day. She was looking, she thought, pretty average as usual, in a blue dress and a pair of sandals that she'd 'borrowed' from her mother.

True, Loanne was enjoying her day - and her time alone. But she wasn't exactly the type of person that needed a lot of silence in her life, she much preferred company. So, feeling utterly bored, the next person that passed her way was chosen as the newest toy. Or well, maybe toy wasn't exactly the right description. After all, Loanne didn't want to play with them, but have some simple fun.

The next person passing by happened to be a brunette girl around Loanne's age. The German girl smirked as she looked at her, then walking over. As she got nearer, she thought that the girl was familiar, but that was pretty unlikely, wasn't it? What with Loanne's never having been to Australia before and all. "Huyoo," the redhead greeted the other, saluting. The smirk didn't disappear. "You got any idea where exactly I am?"

Beginning to feel a little bored, Bex began to wonder how much longer she could possibly walk around before she had to admit to defeat and go back to the hotel she and her family were staying at, at hotel her father happened to own. She didn't want to have to spend the rest of the day with her family, whatever they were doing, but she didn't want to feel miserable either.

A little busy daydreaming, Bex wasn't really taking notice of her surroundings, and was surprised to find someone suddenly standing in front of her. Where did she come from? she thought to herself, whilst taking in the girl's wild appearance. She looked strange, to be frank, and yet it actually suited her. Bex shook her head in response to the girl's question. Assuming the girl was aware that she was in Australia, Bex could be of no more help.
"I just got here like, three days ago," she said, smiling a little. She wondered if the girl was a Muggle. If she was, she hoped to God that she wasn't going to try and socialise with her; she had no idea what Muggles even talked about.

"Oh hey, wow, then I've been here longer than you!" The only reason Loanne was so happy about that, or well, maybe surprised was more it, was that she'd thought most everybody had been in this place for longer than a week - or well, at least everybody she might meet. But well, it seemed like this girl was no native to Esperance. Even more, the brunette didn't sound like the people Loanne'd talked to so far.

"Hey, are you British?" The redhead asked, raising a brow and grinning. Her mother was British, so Loanne knew what they spoke like. Besides, she'd spent a year at a British school. Hey, maybe this was where she knew that girl from! "Are you from H-" It was a lucky thing that her senses kicked her. Being born to muggles, Loanne hadn't known anything about the magical world before she'd been invited to Durmstrang on her 11th birthday. Therefore it was pretty surprising how she kept forgetting that not everybody knew about places like Hogwarts, and especially how not everybody should know. "Hastings?" Ah well, first town with 'H' that came to her mind.

Bex smiled again, a little brighter this time. Clearly this girl wasn't from round here either: for one, she'd asked her where she was, but since she didn't have an Australian accent, Bex guessed she was from a different country altogether. She sounded sort of German, Bex thought, but she couldn't really be sure.

"Yeah, I am," she replied, not surprised that the girl had been able to tell. Bex's accent was the archetypal English one that people who weren't British always mimicked. She was going to ask the girl where she was from, before she spoke again. She frowned slightly, not quite sure what the girl was talking about. Was she really asking her if she was from Hastings, as in the town, or was she confusing it with something else?
"What do you mean?" she asked.

"Oh well, umm, Hastings? Southern coast of the UK, I believe. Lovely town." It hadn't been clever to even start thinking about Hogwarts. Loanne had always had a quick tongue, and it mostly was quicker than her brain. She mouthed things before she thought about them, which she was normally fine with, but no matter how little she cared about the consequences of her actions, the German girl wasn't exactly keen on having the Ministry on her tail for talking about magic with a muggle. Maybe the girl wasn't even a muggle, but how lucky could Loanne be to find a British person around her age in AUSTRALIA, who happened to be a witch?

"Oh." Bex shook her head. She hadn't even been aware that Hastings was on the south coast, which was a little embarrassing, but she didn't have to admit it.
"No I live in-" she hesitated. Really, since she spent most of the year at school, she lived in Scotland. She'd never really thought about that before. "I'm from Cambridgeshire, I don't know if you know it," she replied. "I go to school in Scotland, though."
It was completely unnecessary to tell this girl she didn't even know where she went to school, and the only reason she'd mentioned it was because she suspected that this girl was a witch. She wasn't sure why; there was just something about her. Bex's dad always said you could tell a Muggle from a witch or wizard in an instant, and maybe he was right, to an extent. She figured if the girl was a witch, she'd know what Bex was hinting at.

Loanne shook her head. "Nah, never heard of that," she said, smiling. Then she shrugged, because really, she wasn't the slightest bit interested in the hometown of this girl. The question about Hastings had only been a stupid way to rescue herself from talking about magical places, after all. But when the brunette mentioned going to school in Scotland, Loanne's attention was on her again and she eyed her sort of suspiciously.

"I know a lot of people who go to school in Scotland," she said, carefully, sharing the other girl's idea that they were both witches. So, how to find out without saying too much? "I actually went to school in Scotland this last year myself. Even though I'm normally educated in Russia. Or well, was, I just graduated." There. That wasn't too much, she thought, but if the other girl was a witch, she would probably be able to recognize the Durmstrang-at-Hogwarts-because-of-the-Triwizard-Tournament thing now.

She's definitely a witch. There was no doubt about it. After all, how many Muggle schools were going to send students from Russia over to Scotland for an entire year? Bex was betting none, and it would be way too much of a coincidence. She had to be from Durmstrang, or just graduated, as she'd said.
"Triwizard Tournament?" Bex asked, starting to grin. There was no point in hiding it any longer, but just in case she'd gotten it horribly wrong, she was quite sure she could pass it off as something else, perhaps a sporting event of some sort.

As she was questioned about the Triwizard Tournament, Loanne had to laugh rather loudly, bending over and holding her stomach. "Hahaha, yeah. Russian freaks and French freaks and English freaks all having a party together," she said, grinning brightly. And then the grin dropped, because the thought of Cedric Diggory's dead body hit her. Loanne hadn't known the boy, and hadn't talked to him, but seeing him come back dead with that portkey, in Harry Potter's arm, who was claiming You-Know-Who was back.. It had all been a bit too much to swallow. Loanne was no sentimental girl and hadn't needed a long time to get over the issue. But still, it had been weird. And she still didn't know what to think of Potter's words.

"Pfff," came a sound from the German girl, as she shook her head hardly to change her thoughts. "Wow, now, that's quite the co-incidence!" She laughed once more, saluting again.

Bex couldn't help but grin, even though she wasn't usually much of a smiley person. Thank God she'd gotten it right- and thank God she'd met another witch! It really was a stroke of luck, especially as the girl was from Durmstrang; the few Durmstrang students Bex had spoken to throughout the past school year had seemed alright.
"Yeah, I know," she said pleasantly. "Are you from Durmstrang, then?"

"Oh yeah, good ol' Durmy all the way," Loanne replied laughingly, trying to get her face to show some kind of serious grimace. Durmstrang's reputation was that they supported the Dark Arts, which was true, and that they were all evil and mean - and the girls there were real manly. Or at least Loanne'd heard such things from some people at Hogwarts. She thought it funny, not insulting.

"And I guess you're from Hastings," Loanne concluded, grinning with a wink, of course not meaning the town but Hogwarts this time. As in, actually Hogwarts.

"Cool," Bex replied, smiling a little. She was perfectly happy at Hogwarts and always had been, but she'd often wished she could visit the other wizarding schools, just to see how they differed. The Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students who'd come to Hogwarts this year- who included this girl she'd just met- were very lucky. "What was it like?" she asked.
Bex laughed slightly, understanding what the girl meant. "Hastings, yeah," she replied.

Loanne raised her eyebrows, not understanding what the girl meant with her question. "Huh? What was what like?" So maybe the German girl was being a bit stupid again, but you couldn't blame her. Or well, maybe you could. But it wasn't like she cared whether she was acting silly or not. To her, everything was fine. And if the other girl failed to phrase her questions properly, that really wasn't Loanne's fault.

"Hey, what's your name, by the way, hm?"

"Durmstrang, I meant," Bex replied coolly. "Is it as bad as people say it is?" She knew, as did everyone, about the school's dark reputation, and while she'd often thought that it couldn't really be that bad since it was still a school after all, she did wonder.

"Rebecca," she said when the girl asked for her name. She always introduced herself by her full name first, out of habit. "People call me Bex, though. What's yours?"

"Oi, Durmy. I don't know, I doubt I'm the right person to ask such a thing. It is different than Hogwarts. You could say people are more moody there, and you could blame the colder weather. But hmm, no, I think us Russian students really are a bit worse than others. We know how to defend ourselves, you could say." Maybe this wasn't the best description of what Durmstrang was really like. When being at Hogwarts, Loanne had of course noticed the differences. But whether those were really that big, or it was just the German being freaky once again... She couldn't tell.

"Bex, hah, I like that," Loanne said, grinnning widely. "I'm Loanne, people call me Loanne." She couldn't help introduing herself the same way the girl'd done it. And while many people actually called her something different, the redhead wasn't in the mood to provide any nicknames or stuff. If Bex wanted, she could come up with something herself. And if she didn't want to, she could stick with Loanne. There was nothing wrong with that.

"Oh okay," Bex replied with a nod, not really having much more to say on the subject. It was a strange description that the girl had given, but she understood the gist of it.

She noticed Loanne mimic her, and smiled slightly. "Nice name," she said. It came out souding a little sarcastic even though she hadn't meant it like that, so she smiled again for good measure.

"Thanks for that," was Loanne's rather simple reply to the compliment she'd received about her name, a wide grin added to her words. It was the name of her grand-mother, combined with the name of her mother. Loanne Georgina. The German girl hadn't often met people who had all their names because of their family members, but it was alright to her. After all, she loved her grand-ma, she was a great woman. Her mother she often ahd arguments with, but when it came down to it, she loved her, too. So, Loanne was proud of her names. There.

"So, are you here with your family or something?" Bex asked Loanne, wondering if she too had been dragged to the other side of the world by her parents, or if she'd chosen to come here with friends or something. She supposed Loanne could be here by herself as well, but that was more unlikely; Bex imagined it would be kind of boring to go on holiday alone.

Loanne laughed when Bex questioned whether she was here with her family. “My family consists of only my parents,” she informed her, for whatever crazy reason. “And nah, they aren’t here. I’m all alone, poor little me,” she said, pouting for a moment before she laughed again. “I just graduated and decided it was time I got to see some of the world,” she explained with a smile on her lips, shrugging her shoulders as she was done talking. It had been a pretty spontaneous decision, but that was nothing special if you knew Loanne.

"Really?" Bex replied, raising her eyebrows in surprise. "Wow, that's brave." She supposed it might be nice to go alone if you were comfortable with your own company, but Bex knew that when it came down to it, she'd probably be too nervous, especially going so far away. "And you're an only child then?" she added, having picked up on Loanne's comment about her family. "That's lucky."

"Yeah, hm, well, maybe it's brave," Loanne spoke, shrugging her shoulders again. The girl had never really had any issues with stuff like fear, shyness or bravery. She just did whatever she wanted, and if she didn't want to do something, she didn't do it. Maybe she was as 'brave' because she didn't think things through. Loanne was the kind of girl to already be in the midst of something before she even realised what had happened. And this wasn't particularly a good thing.

"Oh yeah, only child. I don't know if it's so lucky, sometimes I would've liked some siblings." Especially when her mother Georgina had again decided she should help in the house or other annoying things like that.

Bex shrugged, considering her reply for a second before she spoke. "Yeah, at least you get your parents to yourself though," she said. It was a little misleading of her to say, because she happened to be a complete Daddy's girl, but she was thinking more of her mother when she said it.
"I think cousins are better. You know, you see them every so often and it's nice, but eventually they go home," Bex smiled slightly as she said this.

Loanne laughed as she heard the brunette girl’s reply, without meaning to be insulting about it. It just was amusing to the German girl, hearing such a thing. “Trust me, sometimes I’d love to stuff my parents in a bag and send them off to Puerto Rico or some place far away,” she said, though with a chuckle and it was obvious that she still loved her parents.

“Hah, yes, I have a load of cousins. My family’s one of these insanely big ones, it’s rather confusing, really. I never keep up with who’s my direct relative and who’s just a distant one when we meet. But we don’t meet often, at least not everybody at the same time, so yeah,” she babbled, grinning. There were cousins Loanne loved and some that were endlessly annoying. The Parker family really had some of everything.
