Sam almost fell over as he tried to dodge Marcus' spell, slowing him down significantly until he'd basically come to a stop. At least he hadn't been disarmed though - that would have wasted far more time. Even so, the first year had now stretched out a considerable distance over him, and was approaching the castle. Sam groaned loudly, breaking out into a sprint after the kid. All he needed was to close the distance a little, just so that he could aim a decent spell at him that would hopefully slow him down.

When Sam had first began speaking to Marcus he hadn't wanted it to come come to this, but now he was annoyed, and when he was annoyed he often did things that he deeply regretted later. Just like he'd no doubt regret this later in the day. Sam glanced up, seeing the kid in front of him and whipping his wand out. He slowed down, determined to try and make a good quality spell rather than just chasing after the kid. He concentrated on his aim, before sending a Stinging Hex Marcus' way.

Since Sam had completely come to a halt and Marcus had still been running rather quickly by the time Sam had chosen to cast this spell it would be long rather futile to try and send any spells, Marcus was more or less already at the castle, getting into the sheltered courtyard through a bit of maneuvering through students. Once he was in a crowd, casting a spell would be of course, unsafe.

Now that didn't quite mean he stopped, instead he kept going until he reached a secret passageway and jumped right into and kept moving through there as well. Only to pop up in the kitchen of the school, where all the elves were working, and Marcus fell back against one of the shelves and let out a sigh and grinned. "What an idiot."

As soon as Sam had cast his spell he'd broke off into a run again, knowing that he'd have to take advantage of the spell quickly if he wanted to be able to catch up with Marcus before he had a chance to take off again. He was breathing heavily by the time he reached the edge of the castle, and the stupid first year was still no-where to be seen. He groaned loudly, sweeping his head back and forth across the grounds in case he'd ran past him.

Although the kid was no-where in sight, and so muttering to himself under his breath he burst through into the sheltered courtyard - although the kid was still no-where to be seen. There were a lot more people here, so Sam refrained from shouting out to the boy; he didn't want to draw any unwanted attention to himself. Instead he pushed his way through the courtyard and up into the castle, searching everywhere for the boy. He couldn't find him though, and so Sam reluctantly gave up for the day. He was sure he'd see the kid again sometime, he'd just deal with him then...
