The Seaweed is Always Greener

Stories taking place between July '95 to June '96

Re: The Seaweed is Always Greener

Lugus blinked when his brother patted him on the back and he popped up and shook the water out of his hair and looked to his brother. "What..?" He asked, with a tilt of his head, before noticing that well there were two two-leggeds, and one was running right for them. "Oh oh! Lets get away!" Lugus shouted with a frown. Before he suddenly noticed, the bigger one was coming to a slow stop, and looked rather confused.

Benjamin kept running until the fin suddenly disappeared and instead an equally young boy popped up. He stared, blinked and tilted his head in confusion as he came to a slow stop from his running towards the boys. He honestly had thought it was a shark and he would have had to save the youth, but this wasn't the case apparently. Had they stumbled on a pair of young mermen?

Benjamin cleared his throat, and withdrew his wand right back to where it was. "You boys alright?" He asked. Not sure if they could understand him, or even speak English above water, knowing scottish selkies and Irish merrows and how that worked.

Ventus bit his lip when Lugus suggested that they swim away before the strange two-legs could get any closer. "Let's wait." Ventus said quietly, "They seem friendly enough, maybe they can help us." Ventus was clearly desperate at this point, not only for himself but for his brother, and he smiled at the strange man-person and replied in a voice that seemed to have a beautiful musical quality to it "Well, I suppose that wouldn't be my first choice of words..."

Lugus' eyes widened, "Are you crazy what if the same-..." He was cut off, when the man suddenly asked them if they were okay, alright so maybe he wasn't very dangerous. He sighed and nodded softly, and looked over to man as his brother spoke for both of them.

Benjamin tilted his head only more, "Ah. Then how are you?" He inquired, trying to get more information out of the two boys, obviously they weren't completely normal, and he wanted to know exactly where they were from and if they weren't doing very well, why not?

Jude appeared to be in the back, staring just as confusedly as his father.

Ventus looked at his brother - sure they were taking a gamble, but it was not like they held that many chips anymore. They were down to their last hand, and if this was what they were left with then Ventus was done making small-blinds. He was all-in, and come what may he was going to do whatever he could to get them out of this. "It's sort of a long story." Ventus replied quietly, looking down at the water pensively.

Benjamin nodded, "I see.. Well, if you boys want,, I have time and you can tell me.." He walked over closer to the shore, and plopped right down about stomach deep in the water, his upper torso staying above, and in the sun as his hands started to play with the sand. His son came and joined him by his side soon enough.

"But if you don't want to tell me, that's fine... I'm just here to listen.." Benjamin smiled and gave a soft chuckle.

Ventus paused, part of him wanted to tell this man in the hope that he might be able to help them, but he did not want to do it without making sure that Lugus was alright with what he was doing too. Turning to his brother, Ventus whispered "Do you think we should tell him?" His gaze darted back towards the shore as he continued "I think he might be able to help us..."

Lugus remained silent the entire time until his brother turned to him and asked, the boy shrugged. "I don't know.. I mean, he seems nice.. But.. What if it's a trick.. Or something... Though ... I mean, we can die now or later... Does it matter..?" He huffed softly, and looked down in a bit of a sad manner.

Ventus nodded and replied "We take our chances then. Let's go a little closer." They were still quite far from the shore, and Ventus wanted to get a better look at this could-be savior. Moving a little bit closer to the shore, but still deep enough into the water that their lower-bodies were still completely submerged, Ventus replied in his song-like voice "We were exiled from our home and from our community. We have nowhere to go, and no one to turn to." After a long pause he added miserably "We've also had little to eat for the last two weeks."

Benjamin watched as the two boys swam closer to him, he continued to play with the sand, letting it slip between his fingers as he looked up and stared at the two youths. "I see. That doesn't sound like very much fun at all.." He nodded, he could sympathize and understand the pain the boys were going through. He could not imagine being exiled, or anything of that nature, it would be awful.

"Little to eat... You two are quite young to be able to hunt, aren't you...?" He inquired, figuring that the two weren't capable of it quite yet due to their age.

"It's not." Ventus agreed with a nod "It stinks!" slapping the water with his hand and simultaneously flailing his tail angrily in such a manner that - for only the slightest of moments - the tip breached the surface of the water, glinting a dazzling blue before disappearing once again.

When the man asked them about being too young to hunt, Ventus flushed rather red before explaining "Well...technically we should be able to hunt on our own a little, but...we sorta cut class a little." Or a lot - one of the two.

Benjamin raised an eyebrow at the two young merboys, now that he had seen the tail he knew for a fact that these were in fact Sirens of the Mediterranean sea, known for making sailors fall for their natural charm and then proceed to drown, he knew he wasn't in the safest of company, however these boys were well, boys. So he knew not too much danger faced him and Jude.

"I see. And now you're nearing the shore which is potentially dangerous for you, to see if you can find food.. You're risking your life for it, hmm?" Benjamin inquired, though he was quite smart. "Wanting to ask a wizard or witch for food now..?" He asked.

Lugus then stared and pouted towards the two-legged. "You sure do talk a lot!" He shouted, slapping his tail against the water's surface in a bit of an angry manner.

"Come on, Ventus.. He's probably just trying to capture us and kill us.. You can't trust two-leggeds.. Especially when they summon fire from the skies!" Lu pouted and looked over to Ventus, staring at him, a bit angered, not seeing into the man's words and actual meaning and intention.

Ventus too was rather angry at the man's words - and he replied rather tersely "We were searching for fish in the corals when your spawn saw us." He was rather tempted by Lugus' words, but at the same time he realized that they were really on their last fins here. "Yeah, I guess so Lu." Ventus said sadly, eying the older two-legs rather sadly "Let's go..."

Benjamin started to laugh, "My spawn? My dear boy... He was only concerned for your safety, he did not think you were going to be a Siren, a merboy.." Benjamin chuckled, "And I only meant that you were putting yourself in quite a bit of danger by putting yourself so close to the shore. That is all.." He shrugged.

"However, if you want to leave.. You can.." He watched them, chocolate brown eyes fixed upon the two children. "Though I was thinking about bringing you food..."

Ventus paused for the slightest of moments. Food? Did he really have food? Ventus was rather distrustful of the two-legs after what he had recently said to them, but if there was the chance that he was telling the truth then Ventus was very tempted indeed. "What do you think Lugus?" Ven asked quietly, his face twisted in thought "He could be telling the truth..."

Lugus pouted, that wasn't fair! The two-legged was just trying to trick them, he was sure of it. But... Food..? What if they were saying "no" to food if they left now, he looked over to Ventus, and cleared his throat and then dived underwater so they could talk down there. "....I don't know....Lets just.. stay around for a little longer, maybe he'll give us some, and then we can... Well.. I don't know..." He frowned.

Ventus knew he had to make a decision, and he turned back to the two-legs and said cautiously "Well...let's see if you really have food." He knew that this didn't really prove anything one way or the other, but it would at least give him time to think of the best way to proceed from here while the two-legs went and got the food - assuming he really had it.

Benjamin smiled and nodded, "Sounds like a reasonable request.." He turned to Jude, after all they were at a resort, he couldn't go about using magic here, quite yet so he smiled over to his son and motioned for him to go grab the food. "If you go to the cafeteria area, find some fish, preferably fresh. If there aren't any, ask the chefs, we'll feed these poor dears, they do look quite hungry."

Jude looked at his father and nodded at the command, quickly standing up did he run off to go grab food. He returned fifteen minutes later, holding large pieces of fresh fish in his arms, which he was thoroughly grossed out by, due to the slick and icky nature of the fish. He slowly wandered into the water towards the merboys, and let the pieces of fish float to them. "Here you go..." He smiled, and looked to his father and smiled wider.

Ventus watched the two-legs cautiously as he sent the baby two-legs off to get fish, and when the younger returned with several large chunks, Ventus knew that the moment had come. He had to make a decision, the consequences of which would be immense if he was wrong. "Okay...let's trust them." Ventus told his brother, before adding "For now."

Lugus looked over to Ventus nervously, when the other boy said that they should trust them for now and Lugus nodded, "Okay..." And looked over to the fish before swimming over to get and beginning to scarf it down quickly, and in a most hungry manner. "T-This is delicious.." He spoke inbetween mouthfuls.

Ventus slowly swam closer, his nose picking up the scent of the fish as it spread outwards through the water. Finally he could no longer stop himself, and his arm darted forward and snapped some of the fish out of the water and shoved it into his mouth. "Oh my Poseidon." he moaned as he wolfed it down. "This is soooooo good."

Benjamin only chuckled, the boys were rather silly, with how hungry they were. Of course it was their fault for having skipped out on hunting lessons and other such similar things, however Benjamin was not going to be prejudiced for this, he was not going to allow two beautiful creatures to die because of their own stupidity. He would feed them and do whatever he could for them, if it meant keeping them alive.

"How is that..?" He inquired, even though the two merboys had already shared their absolute satisfaction with the fish.
