“Smeltings boys wore maroon tailcoats, orange knickerbockers and flat straw hats called boaters. They also carried knobbly sticks, used for hitting each other while the teachers weren’t looking. This was supposed to be good training for later life.”

Business Overview

Welcome to Smeltings School for Boys! Smeltings is a fee-paying private independent school, also known as a public school, for Muggles. It’s exclusively for boys between the ages of 11-18. It covers the period of education after primary school and usual goes up to sixth form, which is an alternative two year period of student’s education to going to college. The school has a very particular uniform consisting of maroon tailcoat, orange knickerbockers (baggy-kneed trousers), a straw boater hat and usually carry a knobbly stick for which purposes it’s not known but generally to hit things or people with.

An application is required in order to attend, and the school is open to boys from any country, so long as they are able to pay for the tuition and other fees.

Character Types: New student characters at Smeltings may only be non-magical, such as Muggles and Squibs. Professors and support staff are welcome and encouraged as well.

Location

Situated near Dunsford in Surrey, Smeltings has a picturesque setting in the English countryside. The campus consists of several small buildings where classes are held, and one large building that serves as a dormitory.

The Education Annex is comprised of six small buildings, all built in the Georgian style, that house the classrooms. The area in the middle of the Education Annex is called the quad, which is home to a memorial honoring the Smeltings alumi that lost their lives in World War II. The Portsmith Building is a large, four story building that serves as the dormitories and dining halls.

The Grounds include a large swamp and large, grassy fields where athletic events are held. The grounds also features a field house with a competition sized pool. Picnic tables are scattered around the grounds, and it is not uncommon to find students enjoying an afternoon snack at one of these tables when the weather is nice.

Schooling
Students typically arrive at Smeltings via automobile with their parents, though a shuttle does run from the train station in Exeter for those students who elect to arrive by train, as the nearby town of Dunsford does not have a station of its own.

The nearby town of Dunsford is small and does not offer much for recreation. In fact, the village prefers if Smelting students stay away, as they have a history of ruining gardens and destroying property.

Since students are discouraged from visiting Dunsford, they spend the majority of their time at the school. They are encouraged to join one of the several club offered at the school in order to pass the time. The students are also strongly encouraged to study hard, because they are expected to attend university upon graduation.

Parents that wish to enroll their sons at Smeltings must fill out an application. The application takes in to account a student’s academic record as well as their moral character. Legacy students, or those that have a father or grandfather that attended the school, are almost guaranteed a place at the school. The school is open to non-magical boys from any country.

Smeltings has had the same uniform for nearly one hundred years. The uniform consists of a maroon tailcoat, orange knickerbockers (baggy-kneed trousers), and a straw boater hat. Each student is also given a knobbly stick to carry.
