NAME: Can Zerdali
CHARACTER TYPE: Wizard
DATE OF BIRTH: May 13th, 1953
BIRTH COUNTRY: Istanbul, Turkey
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Liverpool, England
EMPLOYER: Guitarist for Wyvern of Wye
POSITION:

COUNTRY FLAG:
PRIMARY ERA: Marauder

What is the concept for your character?
A musician on the cusp of making it big who feels torn, made to choose between two things he loves, but maybe he can have both if he compromises?
What other eras will they be active in and what will their job be in each era?
Only Marauder for now.
What does your character look like?
Can is slim and of average height, and adheres to a strict nutrition and exercise regimen, which he is currently enthusiastically following. He has golden skin, dark hair and dark eyes. He keeps some facial hair, because he thinks he looks too young otherwise. He is nominated for next year’s Witch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. Fashion-wise, it’s mostly dragon leather jackets with jeans and white undershirts. He’s always liked to have a bit of an edgy appearance, both on and offstage, and sometimes wears eyeliner.
Where can we find your character when their story first begins?
Sleeping, probably. The band is still doing pubs, but it’s nonstop these days, so between shows and appearing alongside his totally real girlfriend, Can rarely finds the time to just relax at home, even though it’s what he wants the most. He loves touring and being a musician, but he would also love a quiet night in.
What was life like for your character one year before their primary era?
He and a bunch of friends were jamming in Phil’s flat, wondering what their sound would be if they had a band, and laughing at the idea that a label would ever sign them on.
Who is someone from your characters past who influenced who they are today?
His neighbour and childhood best friend Phil, with whom he learned to play music, Can on the guitar and Phil on the bass. And who introduced him to his schoolmates with whom he would later form Wyvern of Wye: Jim (vocals), Rick (keyboards), and especially Angus (drums).
What does your character think their strongest and weakest traits are?
Can is a talented guitarist, and he knows his own mind, but he’s also kind of a pushover. He’s always had ideas, been creative, and wanted to do his own thing, but he lets other people make important decisions for him, even when he’s not too happy about them. He feels his kindness and innate politeness often get in the way of him getting what he wants. On his own, though, he has a fierce drive, is determined and ambitious. His dreams are big.
What is something your character wants but does not have?
A quiet evening where he isn’t bothered by considerations about the band. Can wants to live his life the way he wants to, but apparently he’s not allowed to do that, says the label. And say his bandmates.
What are their current short term and long term goals?
To tour somewhere bigger than a pub, and to write an entire song for the band, lyrics and music, all by himself. Long term? He hasn’t figured that one out yet. Once Wyvern of Wye is the most popular band in the world, he’ll know, maybe. And maybe then they’ll think him irreplaceable and he can do what he wants.
What is your character doing now to work toward their goals?
Can is using every precious minute of his spare time to write songs and practice his compositions. As for the rest, he’s just hoping for the best.
What is something your character would never tell anyone about themselves?
There’s nothing, very much the opposite, but there certainly is something his bandmates and the entire label don’t want coming out. So to speak.
What is their strongest childhood memory?
Moving to Birmingham from Istanbul at age seven was certainly quite the change, and upending his life once more to go study at Blessed Isis was no less daunting, even with three older siblings already in attendance.
